Argh E.P.

I wasn’t sure about this demo, Kev (The Editor) has a wonderful sense of humour and when I saw the cover and the fact this was recorded in May 2007 my suspicious mind went into overdrive, was this one of his little jokes and this would be the worst thing I listened to this year? or was it just a band trying there luck and issuing an old demo in the hope of good reviews? Well the only way to find out was to play it.

The band comprise of David Caswell on guitar/Hammond, Matthew Fletcher on Drums/Hammond/Tambourine/Argh?, Tom Hatfield on Bass/Piano/Rhodes/Casio sa-20/Hammond (again, wonder if this is the same Hammond or do they each have there own?) and finally Arthur McVey on Guitar. They all sound extremely talented being able to play all these instrument, well with the exception of poor old Arthur who only has a guitar.

Joking apart for me all the tracks were extremely well played instrumental numbers, nothing boring or bland about any of them, really enjoyed the twenty minutes of the demo. Mexicanism, New Rock, and Wait Until Dark were all great but my own favourite was Warning Lid. It seems wrong to be critical of such talent but for me the only thing missing was vocals, you don’t need too much but sometimes it felt like they were missing, other times the music did the talking and it was a pleasure to listen.

For me this was a trip into the unknown I’ve not really listened to a band playing so much instrumental stuff before but I liked it, not sure what market this appeals to but my guessing is better to be a big fish in a little pond and for me CRS are equivalent to a blue whale in whatever pond they play in….....Just in case your wondering I have the flu and that flu plus stuff really is something else.
