kacey underwood started the night off, with a group of friends and a squeaking door as audience. we all thought he was ace, and scarily comfortable with the absolute lack of crowd noise (or crowd). his quiet, quiet melodic songs on acoustic guitar were rumoured to start the nights' swell into an ending of overdriven chaos. we were on next, and surely we peaked too early. the set had an unusual flow and we really packed the rock in. i don't know if i would like to be able to stop and breathe mid-set, but at least we left no awkward empty room gaps. tom and i made the most of the empty dancefloor to have a shimmy ourselves.
a few very enthusiastic people talked to us afterwards and said some very cheering things, but following the triumphant bardens gig it seemed a real shame there weren't more people there to enjoy the night.
i didn't see all of akira due to refreshment outside, but david reported good things, and the couple of songs i caught were nice. bit of a problem with the sound though. somebody's mind not my cup of tea although i'm sure they're nice chaps. all the attitude but nothing that really backed it up for me. onto the next, hopefully with more of a reason to play as enthusiastically as we seem to be.
